It might be before Thanksgiving, but the Smokies can’t wait to show off her true colors. The annual winterfest in the Smoky Mountains begin November 6th and end on February 28th. To start the festival Gatlinburg is holding its yearly Chili Cookoff presented by the neighboring Bush’s Beans. This event is being held at 715 Parkway in Gatlinburg across the street from Fannie Farkle’s. They will have a stage set up for several bands. Tons of food vendors will be showing off their best chili! 5-8pm. $10 entry.
Gatlinburg’s 7th anniversary songwriters festival is 10 days of free live music venues from August 13 – August 22nd. There are also 2 ticketed concerts.

August 16th through the 20th, Gatlinburg holds the Songwriters Festival. Live musical entertainment in downtown Gatlinburg. There are only 3 ticketed concerts, all the others are free. We were there last year and sat on Bubba Gumps deck, ate shrimp and listened to the singing from across the street. Great week to vacation in the Smokies. Lazy Bear Cabin has this week open and anyone that mentions this post will receive 10% off total lodging!
On September 3rd, the Old Mill district holds its annual Heritage Day. Local mountain crafts, bingo, pumpkin painting and a farmers market will be there as many other venues. World class bluegrass and line dancing will also be part of the activities. For the kids there is a petting zoo, firetruck and a special arts and crafts tent. Free admission, bring your chairs (Lazy Bears are in the washer/dryer room) and blanket.
