All trails are open and the base is at 35-40″ at Ober Gatlinburg this year. Far cry from last year. Snow tubing has been very popular this year and has been sold out until January 8th 2018. If you are coming to the Smokies and plan on tubing make sure you get your tickets online here:
Lazy Bear Cabin near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge will be decorating at the end of November to coincide with Winterfest! Winterfest in Gatlinburg kicked off tonight, November 8th with a Chili Cookoff. The beautiful lights will run 24 hours a day until February 28th 2018.

Starting November 8th, Gatlinburg turns into a winter wonderland with Christmas lights for the season. The best way to see the lights is on the trolley ride of lights. The trolley picks you up at the Gatlinburg welcome center at light #5 at 6:30pm, 7:30pm and 8:30pm. Children under 3 are free if they sit on the parent’s lap. Cost is $5.00. For reservations call the Gatlinburg welcome center at 865-436-0535. November is a great month to see the lights as it is not too cold.
September 24 thru the 30th Pigeon Forge holds the National Quartet Convention at the LeConte Center near the Island. Considered the largest gospel music’s largest annual event of the year. Many well known gospel artists and groups will be performing.

Dollywood’s Harvest Festival begins September 29th and last through October 28th in the Smokies! There are going to be thousands of carved and illuminated jack-o-lanterns to view. This is the largest addition to Dolly’s Fall Festival ever! Pure art! Dolly’s whole fall event is amazing. Check it out here:
August 16th through the 20th, Gatlinburg holds the Songwriters Festival. Live musical entertainment in downtown Gatlinburg. There are only 3 ticketed concerts, all the others are free. We were there last year and sat on Bubba Gumps deck, ate shrimp and listened to the singing from across the street. Great week to vacation in the Smokies. On September 3rd, the Old Mill district holds its annual Heritage Day. Local mountain crafts, bingo, pumpkin painting and a farmers market will be there as many other venues. World class bluegrass and line dancing will also be part of the activities. For the kids there is a petting zoo, firetruck and a special arts and crafts tent. Free admission, bring your chairs (Lazy Bears are in the washer/dryer room) and blanket.
